Finally, I’m really glad this was launched. I’m just hoping that the new episodes from this upcoming season will be the next day after being aired on Spike. Being greedy, I wish they’d air at the same time…I’ll take what I can get though.
The ad-supported website will feature every episode, every fight and every fighter from all 10 seasons of “The Ultimate Fighter,” which premiered on Spike in January 2005. The launch of UltimateFighter.com marks the first time that complete UFC fights are available on the Web for free in an ad-supported model and it is the first vertical website launched for a Spike TV series. Both UFC.com and Spike.com will redirect all traffic related to “The Ultimate Fighter” to the new site.
Multiple sources today confirmed with MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) the change to Saturday’s card, which takes place at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J.
A source told MMAjunkie.com said Saunders specifically asked for the new bout when Fitch became available.
Ellenberger has been promised his “show” and “win” money to make up for the UFC’s last-minute switch, we’re told.
An official announcement is expected any time now from the UFC.
Thiago Alves pulls out of UFC 111 ( vs Jon Fitch) due to a failed CT scan. Now with Alves, off the card, Ben Saunders who was eager to fight Jon Fitch will now get his chance. Jake Ellenberger, who Saunders was due to fight has reportedly been paid his bout money and a win bonus but will be removed from the card.
Earlier today we linked up some authentic Muay Thai videos, and it must be our lucky day.
UFC welterweight Mike Swick shares videos from a recent trip to Thailand. He linked them up over Twitter as they happened but here they are all bundled up on his personal blog. Some great stuff here, featuring Roger Huerta as well.
Matt Mullenweg, the founding developer of Wordpress (the blogging platform we use). Posted this great video of some Thai Kickboxing. I don’t know if he regularly watches this sort of thing or MMA but he picked some great clips to put together.
Aoki finally makes his U.S. debut on April 17th, stepping into the cage to battle it out with current Strikeforce lightweight champion Gilbert Melendez. It will be interesting to see Aoki’s transition from ring to cage, some seem to be unaffected by it and other seem to struggle with it, throwing them off their game. Should be a great match up and can’t wait to see casual fan reactions to someone with Aoki’s grappling skills. I know that a lot of us have been waiting awhile for this. Glad to finally see it come to fruition. That’s the good news, the bad — no rainbow pants.
How can ya not like Andrei? I think it’s great he does these videos. They’re honest, friendly and relevant. I like how he talked up Cain Velasquez, another of my favorites. I wish more fighters would pick up this trend.
Really hoping he can pop back and pull out a win against Antonio “Junion” Bigfoot Silva on May 15th.
So recently you may have seen some of your favorite fighters in some national broadcast advertisements. Rampage Jackson in Nike’s, “Human Chain” Olympic ad and Chuck Liddell in Reebok’s viral campaign, working out naked with his girlfriend Heidi Northcott.
Both are pretty great in their own respects, Nike’s has a the mass appeal and a strong message. Reebok’s campaign may not have had a message that stuck out but I’m sure you can guess which one everyone made a big deal about online and off.
I’d like to say that in the end MMA wins because it’s getting more exposure and hopefully that brings more fans. But for now, Reebok 1 — Nike 0.
